The main reasons why the Wings might not make the playoffs next year
The Red Wings are desperately trying to improve their roster for next season but they still might have problems making the playoffs next season.
For one, their team will be a lot younger with rookies such as Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson and Jonatan Berggren likely to make the team.
The Powerplay will also like get worse as Patrick Kane might not be returning and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is likely to sign elsewhere this summer.
Another critical issue is goaltending, while Detroit might be able to sign a new netminder for next season, their current duo of Alex Lyon and Ville Husson has proven to be shaky in key moments.
Defense has ben another massive issue for the Wings down the stretch as they let in at least 4 goals in 15 of their last 22 games of the season.
It will be interesting to see if Yzerman is able to fix these problems and put a better team together for next season.
