The Wings have choices for their crowded defense situation
Next season, the Red Wings will have 8 defensemen under contract including Moritz Seider and Albert Johansson.
General Manager Steve Yzerman show interest in re-signing Shayne Gostisbehere. However, anything can happen. If the team decides to lean another way, they will most likely look for a left-shooting defensemen who can provide power play opportunities.
According to Statmuse, the Wings finished with a GA stat (273) ranked them 24th in the league ultimately. They ended the season with 91 points. Just short of making the playoffs, they ended up in the 9th place of the Eastern conference.
Also, they are 26th in SOG (32.4) and 14th in penalty kill. It seems like they have a problem shooting the puck (23rd overall for shot on goals). Therefore, on the defensive end, some change might need to be addressed as they are 9th in Goals in the league which isn't bad at all.
