After a disappointing end to the season suffered at the hands of the Washington Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings look ahead to the off- season to initiate their re-build.

Steve Yzerman has arguably one of the toughest off seasons ahead of him in the NHL. With last season starting off with so much hope, it is clear he has a lot of work to do in order to become a contender once again. The big question remains, what are the top objectives for Steve Yzerman to tackle this off- season to bolster the Red Wings?

Sources have speculated that Yzerman will need to add a key defensive UFA this off- season, and it may appear that they have found that answer in forward Matt Roy. It is no secret that the Red Wings back end struggled mighty, especially towards the end of the season. With current star defenders on the come up like Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson, an addition like Matt Roy would be a massive help on the blue line.

Roy can match up against opponents' top lines and give Edvinsson the freedom to join the rush more often. Six million over four years is a lot, but then again, you've seen the impact Gustav Forsling has had in Florida over the last two years Roy is exactly that."

Matt Roy has been an absolute stud for the LA Kings, and would be a great fit in the pairing with Edvinsson and would provide much needed veteran guidance. Roy will likely be seeking a long term contract valued at over $6 million AAV. Should Steve Yzerman focus on bringing in Matt Roy to play with Simon Edvinsson?
