Will the Red Wings let Berggren walk?
The Red Wings have an incredible prospect on their hands in Jonatan Berggren but it seems like there is also a few problems.
Berggren is a great offensive player with great hands and a solid vision of the ice which was on full display this season as he put up 56 points in 53 games for the Griffins in the AHL.
The issue seems to be his game without the puck that has the Wings worried as he struggles with forechecking and offensive positioning which is a massive part of the NHL.
Because of this, Berggren has a whole lot of upside. The issue, however, has always been what he's doing without the puck. Battling, forechecking, positioning haven't been up to snuff. And whereas a player of Kane's caliber can get away with these same issues due to sheer scoring volume, Berggren isn't at that star level.
The young forward will likely get a chance to prove everyone wrong as he will start the season in the NHL if everything goes according to plan but he will need to prove that is solid at both ends of the ice if he plans on staying.
