Could the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers be trading partners?
Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period revealed that the Edmonton Oilers are not done upgrading their lineup, especially the defense position.
Oilers president and interim general manager Jeff Jackson is eyeing more deals to bolster their defense. Pagnotta mentions the team is looking to improve their number four or five defenseman position and has named Brett Kulak and Cody Ceci as possible trade bait.
The team has seven defensemen with an almost $27 million cap value. After Darnell Nurse, Mattias Ekholm, and Evan Bouchard, there is a steep drop-off in talent, making it clear that their core needs an addition.
The Oilers have options, including the potential LTIR placement of Evander Kane, battling a major hip issue that could keep him out next season. This move would open up $5.125 million in cap space. Improving the defense core remains a priority, and Jackson will seek out and make this improvement.
