Most serious contender for Nikolaj Ehlers is an Eastern team
The Winnipeg Jets, facing a potential shift in direction after their disappointing 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs exit, might be trading Nikolaj Ehlers.
The 28-year-old forward has expressed disinterest in an extension, making him a prime trade candidate. Several teams have shown interest, but the Carolina Hurricanes have emerged as the front-runners, according to Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News.
Ehlers had a standout season with the Jets in 2023-24, recording 25 goals and 61 points in 82 gamesthe highest point total of his career since 2016-17. His consistent performance has attracted considerable attention, and the Jets are currently looking the interest in him.
Should the Hurricanes successfully acquire Ehlers, they would add a seasoned winger to bolster their lineup in pursuit of a Stanley Cup in the competitive Eastern Conference. As the Jets begin actively shopping Ehlers, more teams are likely to join the race, but for now, the Hurricanes seem poised to land the talented forward.
