Did the Detroit Red Wings make a mistake by trading this player?
Andrew Gibson, recently traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Nashville Predators, impressed at Nashville's Future Stars game.
The 6-foot-3, 196-pound defenseman showcased his offensive and defensive skills, particularly with a key slapshot that tied the game and his effective zone control. Gibson, initially stunned by the trade, quickly felt welcomed by Nashville.
Detroit traded Gibson to unload Jake Walman's contract and acquire a second-round pick from Nashville. Gibson described his playing style as physical and versatile. He excels at penalty-killing and shot-blocking, which he genuinely enjoys.
In the OHL, Gibson had a strong season with 12 goals, 44 points, and a plus-36 rating for the Soo Greyhounds. While the Red Wings saw him as a future top-four defenseman, they needed the cap space to re-sign Patrick Kane and sign Vladimir Tarasenko, leading to the trade.
