The Buffalo Sabres surprised many by trading former first-round pick Matthew Savoie to the Edmonton Oilers. In return, the Sabres received forward Ryan McLeod, bolstering their bottom-six, and prospect Tyler Tullio, who has been in the AHL for the past two seasons.

Buffalo Sabres reporter Lance Lysowski, speaking on Sports 1440, revealed that Savoie's recurring shoulder injuries influenced the decision to trade him. Savoie missed training camp and the start of last season due to a shoulder injury. After a brief rehab stint in the AHL and his NHL debut in November, he returned to the WHL.

"He has been injured a lot. He's had shoulder injuries and I wonder if he didn't get hurt last year after his one NHL game, if he maybe they don't trade him," Lysowski said.

Despite his injury troubles, Savoie has excelled in the Canadian Hockey League. The Oilers could gain a potent offensive asset if his skills transition to the NHL. Edmonton hopes Savoie stays healthy through summer and training camp, anticipating he'll vie for a spot on their opening night roster in October. If healthy, his impact seems promising.
