In a recent interview, Jiri Poner, Leon Draisaitl's agent, emphasized that the Edmonton Oilers need to make a compelling offer quickly or risk losing the star forward.

"There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, i.e., by the end of August, or it doesn't work out at all. It will also become clear whether Edmonton really wants him or not," Poner stated.
When asked if he believes a deal will be reached, Poner responded with a confident
"yes," indicating that the Oilers are committed to re-signing Draisaitl and willing to meet his demands. Poner highlighted that Draisaitl, who has been playing on an $8.5 million contract, is no longer interested in taking a discount. He expects to be among the highest-paid players in the NHL, potentially earning $13.5M to $14M annually on an eight-year term.
With these remarks, it's clear the Oilers need to act decisively. Once they hire a new GM, they must promptly offer Draisaitl a fair contract to secure their future. Following Draisaitl's re-signing, the focus will shift to locking in Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard.
Would you like Steve Yzerman to pursue him if the Edmonton Oilers make no offer?
