On the first day of NHL free agency, the Nashville Predators made a significant move by signing forward Steven Stamkos to a four-year contract worth $8 million per season, totalling $32 million.

Stamkos played 16 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, scoring 555 goals and 582 assists in 1 082 games. Over the weekend, rumors circulated about the Predators showing interest in Stamkos and they closed the deal as soon as free agency oppened.

During his career, Stamkos won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 2010 and 2012 and won two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021. Despite concerns about his age, Stamkos remains a highly effective player. Last season, he had 40 goals and has made 116 goals over the past three seasons. His arrival is set to boost Nashville's offense, particularly their power play. Stamkos has consistently scored 10 or more power play goals in seven straight seasons and 13 of his 16 career seasons.

Would you have been happy if the Detroit Red Wings had landed him?
