It was a difficult decision for Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman to trade defenseman Filip Hronek, who seemed like a franchise cornerstone of his rebuilding process.
He sent Hronek to the Vancouver Canucks at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, receiving first- and second-round draft picks in return.
Hronek has since signed a massive extension with the Canucks to remain in the Pacific Northwest for the foreseeable future.
But he's not likely to be in the lineup tomorrow afternoon as the Canucks visit Little Caesars Arena for the first time this year owing to an undisclosed injury.
He was hurt when he tumbled head-first into the boards during Vancouver's recent 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Canucks will also be without goaltender Thatcher Demko, who hasn't played since the Stanley Cup Playoffs last April.
Additionally, J.T. Miller remains out of the lineup because of an undisclosed personal matter he's tending to.
In the face of all of the key players missing, Canucks coach Rick Tocchet believes that it's simply a matter of having to overcome adversity.
Hronek, 27, has one goal and eight assists this year in 21 games. In his first full year with the Canucks in 2023-24, he scored five goals and 43 assists, including a breakaway goal against the Red Wings after leaping out of the penalty box.
