Detroit Red Wings prospect William Lagesson has been hit with a multi-game suspension by the American Hockey League after his inexcusable actions on Sunday.

Lagesson, a 28 year-old defenseman, was suspended by the American Hockey League for the next three games following a surprising incident on Sunday against the Iowa Wild.

Engaged in a scrum with Iowa's Adam Raska, the pair of players fell to the ice when Lagesson began to lock him in a choke hold. Soon, Raska began tapped him multiple times on the arm as if they were in a UFC ring.

His actions drew drew immediate reactions from surprised fans:

This is just sad and embarrassing. Hope he never gets to play again.

This where the team of the player getting choked leaves the bench no matter the consequences.

What the hell are these guys doing these days. Pulling UFC bulls**t on the ice. Should be a suspension honestly - THIS IS WORSE THAN ANY HIT

Would have been nice for the refs to jump in. Should be suspended, what a ridiculous precedent to set.

How is that not a 20 game suspension at least? Just completely unacceptable and not hockey at all.

A move like this, in my opinion, allows for Raska, at any time, to casually skate up to Lagesson and absolutely rock his world with a glove on punch to the face. I probably would've done it the very moment i got up.

He's now ineligible to play against the Chicago Wolves, Milwaukee Admirals and Cleveland Monsters; he can return to the Griffins lineup on December 6 against the Chicago Wolves.

Lagesson spent last season splitting time with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks organizations, mostly playing in the minors.

He's appeared in a total of 100 NHL games, and has 11 assists.
