Former Detroit Red Wings veteran forward Sam Gagner is getting another chance to extend his professional career.
He's agreed to a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Belleville Senators:
Gagner was first acquired by the Red Wings from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Andreas Athanasiou at the 2020 Trade Deadline, and he remained in the Motor City until 2022.
Initially beginning his career with the Oilers, Gagner bounced around the NHL, making stops with the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Arizona Coyotes.
His best year with the Red Wings came in 2021-22, scoring 31 points (13G, 18A) in 81 games.
One of the veteran leaders during his time with the Red Wings, Gagner predicted that the club would return to the postseason by 2023.
The main thing is trying to help this group get better and that's been my mindset all year. In order to do that, though, you have to put your game on the ice and you have to make sure that you're leading by example. I try to have the same mindset every night. It's not always going to to the way you want, but for the most part, I've felt pretty good about where my game has been at most of the year.
Unfortunately, Gagner's prediction has yet to come to pass.
