Both the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks find themselves in a similar predicament concerning their goaltending situation.

With the highly anticipated NHL off-season rapidly approaching, the latest trade swirling in the rumour mill links both the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim in a deal which could send shockwaves down the league. Elliote Friedman, a highly respectable hockey insider expressed on his 32 thoughts podcast that general manager Steve Yzerman is showing serious interest in acquiring veteran goaltender John Gibson from the Ducks.

Gibson is coming off a down season on a struggling Ducks squad, posting a 13-27-2 record, along with a 3.54 GAA and .888 Sv.%. He has three seasons left on his contract at $6.4 million annually, which is something the Red Wings could easily add given their cap space. It would make sense for Detroit to ask Anaheim to take on Ville Husso's final year of his contract in the deal, paying him $4.75 million in 2024-25. The Red Wings also have Alex Lyon signed next season at a very reasonable $900,000.

With both teams looking to switch things up between the pipes, a change of scenery for both Husso and Gibson could make a lot of sense given the incredible value of the trade. Could we see the likes of John Gibson in Detroit in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
