Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings have been rebuilding for quite some time now and fans aren't so sure that the "Yzerplan" is working to its fullest potential.

In the first round of the NHL Draft, the Detroit Red Wings took winger Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. It was considered a solid pick, but some of the other picks were a bit questionable. Either way, as The Hockey News reports, the Red Wings are exceptionally deep when it comes to their prospect pool. Unfortunately, there is still one weakness that persists.

"When the prospect pool is this deep, there aren't many weaknesses. But the Red Wings' biggest flaw in their system is something Wings fans have been clamoring for. They lack a high-impact forward who could be a legitimate superstar."

So there you have it, the Red Wings need a superstar. Unfortunately, getting one is a whole lot easier said than done. That said, the Red Wings do have a chance to make the postseason for the first time this decade, in the 2024-25 season.

Let us know if you think Steve Yzerman had a good draft, in the poll below. Additionally, stay tuned to Red Wings Insider for all of the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
