1. Filip Gustavsson, Minnesota Wild
With the Minnesota Wild having a top prospect like Jesper Wallstedt and the re-signing Marc-Andre Fleury, there is speculation about whether they will try to shop Filip Gustavsson to another team this offseason. If Wallstedt is ready for the NHL, there is too much personal for the goalie position in Minnesota. Gustavsson, 25, had not the season he wanted in 2023-24. In 45 game, he had a 20-18-4 record, a 3.06 goals-against average, and a .899 save percentage. But he had a .931 save percentage and 2.10 goals-against average in 39 game during 2022-23 and those stats makes him a prime bounce-back candidate for next season.
Gustavsson showed during that season that he has the potential to be true No. 1 goalie in the NHL. He may be the kind of young goalie that the Red Wings might be wiling to take a gamble on. Gustavsson carries a $3.75 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season.
2. Linus Ullmark, Boston Bruins
Linus Ullmark future with the Boston Bruins is really not that simple to predict. The Bruins reportedly tried to trade him during the trade deadline this year, but he decided to block the trade. But now, with Jeremy Swayman in the net during the playoffs, a trade for Ullmark seems inevitable.
He would give the Red Wings a proven No. 1 goalie to work with. He won the Vezina Trophy with the Bruins in 2022-23. He continued that this season by posting a 22-10-7 record, a .915 save percentage, and a 2.57 goals-against average. Ullmark would not be too challenging for the Red Wings to afford, as he has a $5-million cap hit for the 2024-25 season.
3. Juuse Saros, Nashville Predators
Juuse Saros is another star goalie who could be moved this summer. He has been one of the most consistent goalies in the NHL. However, he is now in the final year of his deal and Yaroslav Askarov looks like he could be ready for the NHL. In that case, Saros could be traded for the right price.
The 29-year-old had another really good season for the Predators, posting a 35-24-5 record, a 2.86 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. That kind of goalie would be really good for a club on the rise like the Red Wings. The Red Wings have a strong prospect pool, so they have the assets to land an elite goalie like Saros. It wouldn't be shocking if they went for him.
