Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman addressed the media Tuesday morning before training camp, discussing contract negotiations with defenseman Moritz Seider.

SteveYzerman expressed optimism about reaching an agreement soon, stating,

«We continue to talk. I'm hopeful we can get a deal done at some point. Sooner rather than later would be better for both parties. I don't think we're terribly far apart.»

Seider, 23, has been a key part of the Red Wings' defense, tallying 21 goals and 113 assists over three seasons while averaging nearly 23 minutes of ice time per game.

On Monday, the team signed forward Lucas Raymond to an 8-year deal worth over $8 million annually. Raymond, 22, led the Red Wings with 72 points last season, notching 31 goals and 41 assists. Yzerman praised Raymond, calling him a player "just entering the early stages of his prime" and highlighting his bright future.

Yzerman stressed that both Seider and Raymond are expected to elevate their games as they grow, especially under the long-term deals that cement their place in Detroit's future.
