While the Detroit Red Wings are attempting to earn their second straight victory, they'll once again have to do so without a top-six forward in the lineup.
Patrick Kane, who missed Monday night's game against the the New York Islanders at UBS Arena, won't be available for tonight's game at Little Caesars Arena against the Calgary Flames (7:30 PM EST, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Earlier in the week, he missed practice with what was described as an upper-body issue, though it wasn't believed to be serious.
Kane joined the Red Wings last year after contemplating several different clubs to join. He made his debut in December and later scored his first goal with the Red Wings against the Ottawa Senators on December 9.
He decided to re-sign with the Red Wings during the summer, agreeing to a one-year contract extension that included multiple monetary incentives.
Kane has mostly played on Detroit's second line inside of their top-six with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat, and has recently been paired alongside rookie forward Marco Kasper.
Despite a full offseason of training, Kane has only scored three goals for the Red Wings so far this year.
Last year, he was nearly a point-per-game player.
Kane's place in the Hockey Hall of Fame is already assured, as he's regarded as arguably the greatest American-born player in hockey history.
He also helped the Chicago Blackhawks win three Stanley Cups (2010, 2013, 2015).
One of the most historic goals in hockey history, Kane scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals.
