A top Detroit Red Wings insider has issued a prediction that not only could further fuel their recent resurgence, but will also generate new excitement with fans.

The Detroit Red Wings have received a significant new coaching "bump" after the hire of Todd McLellan, who returned to the organization that he helped win the Stanley Cup as an assistant coach in 2008.

He's helped the team win 5-straight games and gotten them right back to within striking distance of a Wild Card postseason spot, something that was completely out of the picture during the final days of Derek Lalonde's tenure with the club.

But will Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman consider making a major splash on the trade market to help supplement his club's recent success?

While the Red Wings have been linked to Vancouver Canucks star Elias Pettersson, the likely cost of a potential deal would be substantial.

Red Wings insider Max Bultman of The Athletic has floated the possibility of a major swing coming from Yzerman and has listed a pair of names that could be considered.

I still think, in the big picture, the Red Wings are going to need a couple of key injections of talent to their lineup in the next year. One of those would be a difference-making forward, and one would be a reliable meat-and-potatoes defender who pairs with their current young defensemen and prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka.

The dream scenario would be Vancouver's Elias Pettersson - a 26-year-old center who's locked up long-term and has a 100-point season on his resume. It would take a haul to acquire him (think of Vegas' Jack Eichel deal as a starting point), but a 1-2 center punch of Dylan Larkin and Pettersson would be a highly competitive duo for many years to come.

Bultman then suggested the Red Wings could show interest in K'Andre Miller of the New York Rangers, a physically imposing 6'5 defenseman with good puck-moving abilities.

Defensively, what about New York's K'Andre Miller, the kind of long, mobile defender the Red Wings have coveted, who is set to be an RFA in New York? Miller could slot in well next to either Seider or Sandin Pellikka.

Red Wings fans, would you be comfortable with Yzerman acquiring one or both of the aforementioned names?
