A pair of former Western Conference rivals of the Red Wings are reportedly working on a mammoth trade.

While the Trade Deadline isn't for several weeks, one of the biggest trades in recent memory is reportedly being worked on right now.

Per NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Colorado Avalanche are working on a deal to send Miko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes; additionally, it's said to be a 3-team deal involving the Chicago Blackhawks and that Chicago's Taylor Hall could be involved.

Hall was designated as a late healthy scratch before tonight's Blackhawks game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at United Center, further fueling speculation that a trade could be in the works.

Hurricanes forward Martin Necas is also said to be involved in the trade.

Hall has 24 points (9G, 15A) in 46 games with the Blackhawks so far this year. Meanwhile, Rantanen has continued his elite play with 64 points (25G, 39A) in 49 games, while Necas has 55 points (16G, 39A).

The Vancouver Canucks were reportedly involved in a potential deal for Necas, but were rebuffed.

The Red Wings had multiple high-profile battles with the Avalanche and Blackhawks while in the Western Conference

Older generations of Red Wings fans still remember the days when the club played in the Western Conference, which led to rivalries with teams like the Avalanche and Blackhawks.

Their fierce rivalry with the Avalanche was one of the most notable in all of professional sports, while they also had been historic foes of the Blackhawks dating back to their Original 6 days.
