Nazem Kadri ready to waive no-trade clause on some conditions
NHL insider David Pagnotta reports that Nazem Kadri may be ready to waive his no-trade clause to depart from the Calgary Flames.
Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Flames in the summer of 2022, shortly after winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. At the time, the Flames seemed poised for sustained success, making the deal appear advantageous.
However, Calgary's situation has deteriorated, with the team seemingly heading towards a rebuild. This shift may be enough to motivate Kadri to seek an exit. Pagnotta believes Kadri would waive his no-move clause for the right opportunity, potentially eyeing a return to the Avalanche or a move further east, closer to home.
"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado or farther East, somewhere closer to home," Pagnotta reports.
Interestingly, this rumor contradicts Kadri's end-of-season remarks, where he expressed a desire to see out his contract in Calgary. Players can change their minds, and perhaps Kadri, after weeks of contemplation, now prioritizes winning or has other personal considerations influencing his decision.
Regardless, this rumor has put the Flames in the spotlight, making them a team to watch closely this summer. Will they make another significant move? Only time will tell.
