Could Tyler Bertuzzi be coming home to Detroit?
Its no secret that Tyler Bertuzzi has always been a fan favourite in Detroit.
In a heartbreaking trade for the Detroit faithful, Red Wings fans have seen Tyler Bertuzzi play for the likes of the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bertuzzi was a nice addition for both franchises, helping bolster their offensive fire power and contributing to both teams in the post season, but rumours are circulating about the potential future of Bertuzzi. Could he now be coming back home to his original team in Detroit?
A reunion with the Red Wings would bring him back to familiar territory, where he spent seven successful years, and aligns with Detroit's push for playoff contention with $29.3 million in cap space, as noted by Proteau. Bertuzzi recorded 88 goals and 114 assists for 202 total points across 305 games played across his eight seasons with Detroit.
Although the task would not be easy for Steve Yzerman, having a heart and soul player like Tyler Bertuzzi back on the Red Wings could give them much needed leadership and offensive fire power they lacked towards the end of the 2024 regular season. Due to his strong performances in Boston and Toronto, Bertuzzi will likely be seeking a lucrative pad day and would require a 3-4 year deal valued at $6 million per year AAV. Can Steve Yzerman bring Bertuzzi back home?
The other currently on the hunt for Tyler Bertuzzi are the Nashville Predators and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
