The Detroit Red Wings find themselves in a dilemma when analyzing their goaltender situation heading into next season.

The rumour on the block is that Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso could be trade bait for general manager Steve Yzerman as we head into the NHL off-season. If a situation arises where Ville Husso ends up being traded, the Detroit Red Wings should consider bringing in a veteran goaltender who could be a suitable replacement for Husso as Alex Lyon's backup.
Sebastian Cossa, a goaltender prospect for the Red Wings, was the 15th pick in the 2021 draft. Cossa is coming off a respectable first season in Grand Rapids but isn't anticipated to be ready for an NHL debut anytime soon. Cossa would be a long shot to be a dependable replacement for Husso, therefore, Steve Yzerman should look to up and coming free agents to help bolster their goaltender tandem.
This off-season will present number of experienced goaltenders who's contacts are set to expire and will be entering free agency. One of the top names on the list the Red Wings should consider is Winnipeg Jets goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Brossoit is a proven affordable backup goalie with championship experience playing with the Las Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
Laurent Brossoit, Winnipeg (31): The career backup is coming off his best season (2.00 goals-against average, .927 save percentage in 23 games), which could earn him a multiyear pact at a decent raise from his $1.75 million salary.
