Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews linked to Atlantic Division Original 6 club
Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has openly spoken about making a comeback to the NHL, and he's been linked to an Original 6 club in the Atlantic.
The career of former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews appeared to have come to an end after 2022-23.
He was informed by the Blackhawks, the club that he captained to three Stanley Cup wins, that he wasn't going to be re-signed. Toews had also experienced multiple health problems that caused him to miss the entire 2020-21 season and several weeks of 2022-23.
Toews was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), and was still experiencing symptoms of long COVID in what was thought to be his last year in the NHL.
But he's spoken openly about hoping to make a comeback effort, and NHL insider Frank Seravalli has linked him to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with his hometown Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche.
The Leafs, Jets and Avalanche are all legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. They'd be interested to see what one of the most clutch players of his generation still has left in the tank.
It's been almost two calendar years since we've seen Jonathan Toews on the ice, but I can tell you there's no shortage of teams whose interest peaked over the holidays. Toews is feeling the best he has in years and hinted that he might want to resume his NHL career.
Toews, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy for the 2010 postseason and scored 367 goals in 1,067 games, recently said he hopes his career hasn't officially ended.
There's a part of me that really doesn't feel like my career is over yet. I'm going to give it my best shot.
