Former head coach of bitter Detroit Red Wings rival releases concerning personal update
Former Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks head coach Marc Crawford has announced a personal update that has left fans worried.
Former Colorado Avalanche head coach Marc Crawford is well known to fans of the Detroit Red Wings, as he was with the Avs at the onset of the iconic rivalry between the two clubs.
However, the most recent update from Crawford himself has left fans worried. He's announced that he is stepping away from his role as coach of the Zürcher Schlittschuh Club Lions of the Swiss National League due to mental health reasons.
It is with sincere gratitude and a lot of humility, that I announce that I am resigning immediately as the Head Coach of the ZSC Lions. For the last several months, I have been investing in intensive therapy with the hope of understanding the depths of my own mental health. This process has proven to be both challenging and revealing to me as a coach, a husband, a father, and an expecting grandfather and finally as a person.
To the fans and supporters of ZSC, you made me feel instantly welcomed and at home here in Zurich. I have loved every minute of being the caretaker of your team. Your passion for the team is something that continually amazes me, and out of the respect and admiration that I have for this club, I know that this is the right time to step away.
ZSC will always hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of my family. I look forward to spending more time with my family and to continuing to grow as a mentally healthy human being.
Crawford coached the Quebec Nordiques before the franchise moved to Denver to become the Avalanche; he led them to the 1996 Stanley Cup after beating the Red Wings in the Conference Finals.
He also has coached the Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars, and briefly served interim head coach of the Ottawa Senators.

Red Wings fans will never forget the sight of Crawford climbing the bench during Game 4 of the 1997 Conference Finals to scream at Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman, who simply replied that he knew Crawford's father before he did and he wouldn't be proud.
. Crawford later offered the following apology:
«I embarrassed the league and, more important, I embarrassed my team. And for that, I am sorry. There's no way you can justify anything like that. If you try, it's wrong. I was wrong.
