Goaltender Alex Lyon issues uncomfortable warning to Detroit Red Wings
Despite the Red Wings having won 8 of their last 10 games under new coach Todd McLellan, goaltender Alex Lyon is issuing a warning to the rest of his teammates about the realities of their situation coming down the stretch.
The Detroit Red Wings have completely changed their season around under new coach Todd McLellan, who has guided them to 8 wins in their last 10 games since the underperforming Derek Lalonde was terminated on December 26.
The Red Wings have vaulted themselves back into the thick of the tightly-contested Eastern Conference playoff race, and will have to battle it out with several other teams for one of the final postseason spots.
Goaltender Alex Lyon, who has missed the last several games while recovering from another injury, appreciates the boost that McLellan has given the Red Wings but also wants to caution players and fans.
I think a lot of being a goalie is blocking the outside noise so that the objective remains the same. I think obviously these guys coming in have done a really good job, and made our lives simpler. That's been awesome.
This has happened twice to me before actually, and there's always a nice bump and 'feel good' phase. I kind of feel the real work starts after that, so we just have to be weary of that. There are going to be lows, there's obviously been a lot of highs recently but there will be lows. We have to be mentally prepared for that, it's going to be difficult down the stretch.
Alex Lyon is on the verge of returning to the Red Wings after missing more time with his 2nd injury of the year
Lyon, who was hurt earlier in the month in Detroit's 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators, could potentially return for the Red Wings when they play the Dallas Stars tomorrow at American Airlines Arena (8:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Lyon is in his 2nd year with the Red Wings and has gone 8-5 while posting a 2.71 GAA and .902 SV%. He also has a single shutout.
