Although the season ended with total disappointment for Red Wings fans across the NHL, one of the highlights of their season was power play production from their star blue liner, Shayne Gostisbehere.
As we approach the off-season, many are speculating whether Steve Yzerman should extend UFA Shayne Gostisbehere's contract or not. The veteran defenceman showcased flashes of brilliance during the regular season, specifically offensively, tallying 10 goals, 46 assists, and 56 points over the regular season. Although Gostisbehere produced offense at a decent rate, many have questioned his defensive abilities and he was an abysmal -16 rating through 81 games.
Rumours are starting to spread about the Pittsburgh Penguins being front runners to pick up Shayne Gostisbehere. He is currently valued at over 4.1 million dollars per season. If Kyle Dubas and the Penguins pick up Gostisbehere, it would surely open up some cap space for Yzerman. But at what cost?
