The Detroit Red Wings are going to be shorthanded tonight against the Los Angeles Kings, and coach Todd McLellan has given the latest updates on their health.

The Detroit Red Wings will not be at full strength for tonight's game at Little Caesars Arena against the Los Angeles Kings (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Patrick Kane has been placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to January 21, while J.T. Compher is day to day after taking a hit from Tampa Bay's Emil Lilleberg in Detroit's 2-0 win on Saturday night.
Additionally, Vladimir Tarasenko didn't skate this morning due to feeling under the weather, and he's not expected to play per Coach Todd McLellan.
We're dinged up a little bit. Vladdy didn't skate this morning and didn't feel good, I don't think he'll be available and Compher also won't play tonight...day to day.

We've got some guys who are on standby, so if we need bodies, we'll have them here. We're not going to be short staffed.

As far as Patrick Kane is concerned, McLellan said that he remains day to day while continuing to get the treatment he needs to make a return before long.
Continues to be day to day, obviously, he didn't skate today but he's getting treatment and doing the things he needs to do.

McLellan, who has now been head coach of the Red Wings for 31 days since taking over for the terminated Derek Lalonde on December 26, also spoke about what he knew about the Red Wings coming into the job as opposed to what he knows now having been in place for a month.
It's interesting, because not only were we on the outside, we were on the west. You don't know as much as you think you know about teams out here, you're so focused on what you're doing in your own division and your own set of rivalry games that when you roll out here, you know you play them once and you plan for it and move on.

I didn't know as much about Detroit as I do now obviously, that should be obvious. The youth that's here and that's coming, I don't know that part, but it's a bright future.

Patience is gonna have to be part of it so that it continues to develop, and then there's some real good veterans that provide leadership....I like the group.
