Could Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman be close to swiping Swedish star forward Elias Pettersson from the Vancouver Canucks in a major trade?
The Detroit Red Wings are on a roll, having completely turned their year around after the hiring of coach Todd McLellan on December 26.
After entering the Christmas break tied for last place in the Eastern Conference, the Red Wings have since gone 17-5-2 under McLellan, vaulting themselves right back into a postseason position.
Yesterday, general manager Steve Yzerman traded goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks, freeing up considerable salary cap space.

Among the players that Canucks Army suggested that the Red Wings could dangle as trade bait include Michael Rasmussen and Elmer Soderblom as well as prospects Nate Danielson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Trey Augustine.
